Many would say this is the 3rd year in a row with unpredictable drafts, but this one is by far the most unpredictable. In the Draft Lottery this past weekend, the Atlanta Hawks obtained the 1st overall pick. This allowed everything to be a little bit more clear, Alex Sarr fits perfectly along side Murray and Trae Young. This could be the big break the Hawks need to be a top 5 seed in the east.
After the Hawks pick everything becomes unclear, so many teams in the middle of the draft could use a big man, others could use a guard. The rankings for this years class vary. It is such an unpredictable class. Many of the 2024 prospects are freshman who haven't been able to show what they can do. There is also a good mix of seniors that some could say under performed in college or are flat out not NBA ready.
One must remember that the NBA is unique, the G-League can prepare "reaches" and under developed players for the NBA. So just because a pick may seem bad on draft night, it could still work out years down the road.
This years biggest prospect by name of course is Bronny James. Bronny struggled at USC, which I always thought was an odd choice for him, with how stacked USC was at the guard postion. James is great at on-ball defense but he is young, raw, and unpolished. Bronny is also the son of the biggest free agent in NBA history, Lebron James. Where Lebron goes, championships, money, fame, and of course media follow. Many non-ball knowers are already writing off Bronny because he didn't have the flashy stats. But if you put Bronny on a competitive G-League team, develop his 3pt shot, you could be looking at the steal of the draft.
The following 2024 NBA Mock Draft is our first of many, was done pre NBA combine and features no trades. This is not our big board, this is a draft based on if all teams drafted by need. Stay tuned to the Sports Vibes Podcast as we will break down each pick, and all the prospects from the 2024 NBA Draft.
