In Week 18 of the 2022-2023 season the Houston Texans and former Chicago Bears head coach, Lovie Smith beat the Colts allowing the Bears to claim possession of the 1st overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.
The question on everyone's mind is what kind of return will the Bears get for such a coveted pick? With many teams including the Panthers, Saints, Colts, Jets, Texans, Commanders, Raiders are in need of a QB such as Bryce Young. It will be interesting to see the return Ryan Poles gets.
The best case scenario for the Bears would be to trade back for 2 First Rounds (+) and potentially a disgruntled star such as Brian Burns, Davante Adams, DJ Moore, Brandin Cooks, Michael Pittman Jr, or even DeForest Buckner. However, this could also not be the case and the Bears could decide to stay at the 1 and draft another great Alabama prospect.
The worst case scenario for the Bears and one that is unlikely is that Chi-Town stays at the 1 and picks Will Anderson Jr. Will is a great player and will be great in the NFL but the Bears do not just need 1 defensive playmaker they need a boatload of talent on both sides of the ball. Jalen Carter a DT is also considered the best player in the draft. But Carter and Anderson don't bring the Bears what they need at the moment.
The Bears are coming off a lackluster season that any fan should have seen coming after signing Dante Pettis and Byron Pringle to be starting WR's and trading 3 star defensive players, it was pretty obvious what this team was going to be like in 2022/2023. The Bears have the most cap space in 2023 and should look to use it on O-Line, D-Line, and cornerstone pieces that can help the team win now. The Bears were in 8 single score games this season which shows that the team can indeed compete with the right players.
It will be interesting to see what Chi-Town and Ryan Poles do this off-season but it is certainly off to a good start thanks to Lovie Smith and Davis Mills contribution on Sunday.
